Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.
We are privileged to share the story of Thomas Matthews, a true patriot who dedicated 41 years of service to the U.S. Army, culminating in a remarkable 16 years as a one-star general and 11 years as a two-star general.
Story submitted by Joe Kirby “My cousin was in army for 41 years and 16 years as one star general for 4 years and 11 years as two star general. He was a true patriot and involved in so many different things. He was in charge of civil affairs for Bosnia, in charge of fort hood, special forces command, Y2K while we had huge party he was 6 floors under pentagon number two IT, he was involved in command of wildfires in California and the list goes on. He was supposed to retire three times but he was asked to take on more responsibility and being army reserve he rank was as far as he could go. He now dedicates all his time to helping veterans and wounded warriors. I am proud to even know him. I lost my wife five years ago and Tom has helped me recover and fill a void in my life we spend a lot of time at my cabin in Pa. I can’t think of anyone who would deserve this flag. His dedication to our country is beyond belief I can’t say enough about him and I’m a better person knowing him. I hope you will consider him for a flag. I would love to honor him with flag to place at our cabin. Thank you for your consideration"
Thank you, Thomas, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
