Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.

We’re honored to share the story of Joe Boccuzzi, a true veteran hero whose resilience in the face of profound adversity exemplifies unparalleled courage and dedication.

Story submitted by Christine Fitzwater “My brother Joey had been on the USS Midway back in 1987. He was a sailor on the Damage Control Team. Had had been in an explosion on the ship (which was an aircraft carrier)in 1990. He suffered severe burns to 32% of his body to his face, arms, legs, back, chest, losing tips of a few fingers and undergoing extensive surgeries to heal his burns. He has suffered permanent lung damage from the smoke and fire. This had completely changed his life and his outlook on life and now helps veterans with getting their benefits that are deserved. My brother loved the Navy and would have made a lifetime career out of it. I nominate Joe Boccuzzi as one of the Veteran Heroes!"

Thank you, Joe, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
