Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.
We’re honored to share the story of Gregory Kaloyerakis, a remarkable veteran who just celebrated his 99th birthday and whose bravery and compassion continue to inspire.
Story submitted by Elana Kaloyerakis “My Dad just celebrated his 99th Birthday. He was called to duty at the age of 19 in 1943 to 1946. He was in the 20th Armored Division as a PFC in WWII. He served his country with pride. He entered the service a young boy and arrived home a man. His tank corp helped liberate those that survived the Nazi Gas chambers of Dachau. He can remember the camps and the people screaming for food and freedom. They gave them food they had from their rations and they were so grateful. Dad said, you did what you could and gave them everything you had until more food supplies were brought in. I can't imagine being anymore proud of my Dad then I am. I wear my Proud Veteran Daughter tee shirt every year, and commend him for his service to our country."
Thank you, Gregory, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
