Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.

We’re honored to share the story of Dan Roman, who served with unwavering dedication aboard the USS Independence CV-62 for fighter squadron VFA-195 DamBusters in the late 90s.

Story submitted by Matthew King “Airman Roman (Dan) served aboard the USS Independence CV-62 for fighter squadron VFA-195 DamBusters in the late 90s. He was a Plane Captain on FA-18 Hornets and worked on the flight deck during flight ops. He was very dedicated to his job and always gave it his all even though he missed his family state side. His Squadron went to the Persian Gulf and all around South East Asia and was Stationed in Atsugi Japan while not at sea.

I met Dan during boot camp in Chicago and he and I became best friends after we both got similar orders to report to Japan. I don’t think my life would be the same if he and we hadn’t become friends because being away from family on the other side of the world was tough on an 18 year old from small town America. Having a best friend to share all the stresses of being at sea and far from home was a blessing. We are still friends till this day. I’ll always have his back and he’ll always have mine."

Thank you, Dan, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
